Matthew 22:34-40 (Devon K)

September 18, 2022 Preacher: Devon Kauflin Series: Matthew

Scripture: Matthew 22:34–22:40

“So often it seems to us that, try as we might, we cannot help ourselves: We cannot listen well, we cannot greet God’s Word with faith, we cannot soften our hard hearts. Of course we can’t. We can no more improve our spiritual lives than we can raise ourselves from the dead. But what we cannot do, God can and will do. God has not left matters in our hands; we are in the hands of Jesus Christ. And he, Jesus Christ, is Lord of all things—all things, including our hearts, our wills, our desires, our hopes. He takes hold of us; he does for us what we cannot do for ourselves. By his Spirit he brings new life.”

John Webster, Confronted by Grace, p129
